Maggie’s Penguin Parade is officially open! See the waddle of 80 giant Penguins across the city of Dundee, and as far afield as Kirriemuir, Brechin, Perth and St Andrews.
Artists have transformed the blank sculpture designed by Duncan of Jordanstone lecturer Janice Aitken into super-sized masterpieces. From golfers to comic book characters, pilots to footballers each Penguin showcases a one-off design inspired by everything from the history of Dundee to climate change.

Ppp-pick up a trail map and find sculptures such as Charles by Suzanne Scott (Whimsical Lush), and Bonnie Dundee, backed by TV personality Lorraine Kelly. Tiaki the Blue Penguin from New Zealand visits Dundee joins the art trail thanks to Scottish rock legends Simple Minds.
Spot the Penguin chicks
One hundred baby Penguins created by nursery, primary and secondary schools, plus a number of community groups, have also joined the trail in local Penguin ‘crèches’! These colourful creatures for the learning programme help showcase Tayside’s involvement in the 2018 Year of Young People.
Dundee schoolboy, Thomas Glaister, 10, won a national design competition to create a Penguin with artist Dawn Brooks. Inspired by all things Scottish, the sculpture takes pride of place outside Dundee’s Visit Scotland information centre in City Square.
Super trail-goers go the extra mile
Flippers up to Andrew and Wendy MacAusland, one of the first visitors to discover a Penguin on Maggie’s Penguin Parade in Dundee! They travelled more than 400 miles from Hereford for a holiday around the art trail after hearing Wild in Art Director Charlie chatting to presenter Chris Evans on BBC Radio 2.
Not a stranger to our art trails, they found Commonwealth Games Clyde mascots in Glasgow, Olympic mascot sculptures in London, and Snowdogs in Cardiff. They’re already planning their trips for later this summer to Worcester Stands Tall (Giraffes) and Hoodwinked (Robins) in Nottingham. Congratulations to these super trail-goers!
