The Mayfly/Dragonfly series was created when founding The Dragon Gallery, they have many meanings They represent the year of the Dragon, the gallery and limited time of a soul tie. All works are on circular canvas using techniques from fluid pouring to dry brush.

The Mayfly and Butterfly series is something a little more personal.

A fleeting moment. A single day. A lifetime within the fragile wings of a mayfly.

This series is a reflection on time, on when and why not now—a meditation on living grief, memory, and the urgency of today. The frustration of knowingness and having to leave it to choice of free will. Meeting your soulmate, and being given psychic insight many years ago on a first meeting with a timeframe and never getting the opportunity to get close enough to say something, hoping you are wrong then finding out you are not. Almost getting the chance and life throws obstacles in the way delaying alignment. The frustration of knowing the beautiful experiences that await if alignment is met, and the frustration of misery lived out if wrong decisions are made if alignment is not.

Delicate dragonflies and mayflies dance over fluid resin backgrounds, suspended between movement and stillness, between past and present. Having to wait and watch as life unfolds, hoping to get that chance, hoping your soulmate comes into alignment, but will they? Or will we have to come back to earth and go through this all over again if we don't come into alignment in this one.

Because in the end, all we ever have is now. The mayfly lives for one day, and in that moment, he explores, falls in loves and watches his only sunset. He makes the most of his 24 hours appreciating all that is beautiful on his one day on earth.

Respecting and honouring the power of pure and gentle feminity, owning that crown, not putting up with anything less than deserving or anyone who doesn't respect, value or honour their Queen. Though shalt be tossed out of the nest, and left for other insects to devour, whist the Queen continues to glow in all her golden light and shine on all that those that value and respect her. A queen straightening her crown after she invested in the wrong worker bee.

In some cultures, dragonflies represent good luck or prosperity. So make a wish when you see a dragonfly and it’ll come true.

In China, they represent harmony, good luck, and prosperity. This might relate to the belief that the dragonfly is the soul of a dragon.

In America, one Native American myth suggests that dragonflies were originally dragons. A coyote tricked a dragon into shapeshifting, and it couldn’t change back. As a result, the dragonfly symbolises change, speed, and illusion.

Dragonflies appear in Navajo sand paintings. Where images show them near water, they represent the water’s purity.
